The house is located on the border between the districts of San Marco and Castello, in a central but quiet location away from the main tourist flow. Here, you can still soak up the authentic atmosphere of Venice, amongst locals, small neighborhood shops, and glimpses revealing the real Venetian life.
The apartment is only a 5-minute walk from Piazza San Marco and the San Zaccaria water bus stop. For those wishing to visit the northern lagoon and the beautiful islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello, the ′Ospedale′ stop is also very convenient, reachable in about 10 minutes on foot.
The environment is quiet and relaxing: the house overlooks a characteristic inner square and beautiful private gardens that sit on the San Lorenzo Canal. The only sounds accompanying your stay will be those of the boats slowly crossing the canal.
The Castello district is one of the liveliest and most authentic in the city. Wandering through the narrow streets, you will encounter fruit and vegetable sellers, bakeries, pasta shops, hardware stores and small shops still frequented by the Venetians. This is where you can truly experience the city′s daily rhythm.
In this area, the traditional ′Bacari′, small Venetian taverns, are highly popular. They are meeting spots to have a ′cicchetto′ and drink a ′shadow′ of wine or a spritz. The typical Venetian cicchetti are small tastings mainly prepared with fish: creamed cod, anchovies, cuttlefish with polenta, octopus, and many other specialties of the Venetian seafaring tradition.
In Venice, life is lived mostly outdoors: you walk to reach every place, meet along the narrow streets, and often stop to ′far do ciacoe′, or to chat in company.
From the house, you can also easily reach the Venice Arsenal and the Venice Biennale, symbolic places of the city closely tied to its artistic and seafaring history.
